Kenyan bourse index sheds more points on falling stocks

NAIROBI, May 3 (Xinhua) -- The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) benchmark index shed off more points on Thursday as several large stocks fell.
The NSE 20 Share Index declined 26.61 points to end the session at 3,662.98 as it sustained a downward trend. The index went down 45.47 points on Wednesday.
Some of the stocks which dropped prices pulling down the index were Centum (7 percent), Athi River Mining Cement (3 percent) and Scangroup (3.3) percent, among others.
Safaricom was the day's most traded stock with 27.1 million shares, up from 18 million on Wednesday, which represented over 70 percent of the day's traded value.
The banking sector represented by Kenya Commercial Bank, Equity Bank and Barclays Bank accounted for the second largest shares traded moving around 3.3 million, 1.7 million and 819,800 respectively. Regional oil marketer KenolKobil came in third with 2.9 million shares.
Some 40 million shares were traded at the bourse on Thursday, up from 30 million worth 7.5 million U.S. dollars on Wednesday. Enditem
