YEREVAN, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan who spearheaded the nationwide protests in Armenia, was nominated to run for the prime minister again next week.

The parliament will vote to elect a prime minister on May 8, according to the official website of the parliament of Armenia.

According to the electoral code, Pashinyan needs to secure signatures from at least one-third of the members of parliament to meet the requirement of his candidacy in the second round of the voting for PM in Armenia's National Assembly.

On Thursday, the second largest faction Tsarukyan Alliance, Pashinyan's own Yelk bloc and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Party have all pledged their support for Pashinyan in the second round.

Earlier on Wednesday, the ruling Republican Party, which had thwarted Pashinyan's first bid for prime minister on Tuesday by voting against with 56 votes from 105-seat parliaments, announced that "the country will have a new prime minister on May 8."

Later that day, Pashinyan called on to cease protests and acts of civil disobedience in the country. Enditem.
