MANILA -- China's trade with countries along the route of the Belt and Road Initiative has grown significantly over the years, especially with the 10 ASEAN member countries, and the trend will continue to gain traction, chief economist of a regional economic surveillance unit said on Thursday.
Hoe Ee Khor, chief economist of the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO), said in an interview with selected reporters that China's Belt and Road Initiative can fill the massive infrastructure gap in the region. (ASEAN-Belt and Road)

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia on Thursday dispatched 428 peacekeepers, including 24 females, to join United Nations peacekeeping missions in the African nations of Mali and South Sudan.

NEW DELHI -- The death toll in the deadly storm that hit India's northern states of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday night has risen to around 80, with around 143 people injured, according to official sources.
The highest number of deaths was reported from Uttar Pradesh's Agra city where around 36 people died in the disaster. (India-Storm)

MANILA -- The economy of the ASEAN+3 region is projected to grow 5.4 percent in 2018, underpinned by resilient domestic demand and export growth with stable inflation, said a new report released on Thursday by the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO).
The ASEAN+3 comprises the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states, China, Japan and South Korea. The 10 member states of ASEAN are Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Brunei. (ASEAN-Economy)

TALUQAN, Afghanistan -- Some 45 Afghan girl students were poisoned following a suspected gas attack in the northern province of Takhar on Thursday, local police said.
