Singapore stocks close 1.1 pct lower

SINGAPORE, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) went down 1.1 percent or 39.6 points to close at 3,575.68.

A total of 2.23 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.55 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.16 billion U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 276 to 147.

The STI index closed up 0.04 percent or 1.35 points to close at 3615.28 on Wednesday. Enditem
