Austria stun Germany 3-2 to survive table tennis women's team worlds group stage

HALMSTAD, Sweden, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Austria, the 7th seed, stunned Germany 3-2 here on Wednesday to survive the group stage of the table tennis women's team worlds.

Austria's Sofia Polcanova won the opening and the fourth games, and Liu Jia, with an impressive comeback, took the decisive game five to seal a quarterfinal berth for Austria.

Austria will face defending champions China on Thursday in the quarters.

Ukraine, the 15th seed, shocked Singapore 3-2 to grab a quarterfinal ticket, and will meet title contender Japan in the quarters.

DPR Korea, the 19th seed, upset Russia, the 8th seed, 3-0, and will take on South Korea, the 5th seed, in the quarters.

Beating Chinese Taipei 3-1, Hong Kong of China will encounter Romania in the quarters. Enditem
