PHNOM PENH, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Wednesday welcomed the successful conclusion of the inter-Korean summit last week and the Panmunjom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity and Unification of the Korean Peninsula, said a foreign ministry statement.

"This landmark summit is a step forward towards the improvement of the inter-Korean relations and cooperation as well as peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula," the statement said.

"Cambodia is encouraged by the expressed commitment to establish a permanent peace regime in place of the current state of armistice and fully support the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula which would create a lasting peace, security and stability in this region," it said.

The statement came after the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) top leader, Kim Jong Un, and South Korean President Moon Jae-in met at the truce village of Panmunjom on April 27, and issued a joint declaration pledging to end the Korean War and reaffirming their commitment to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
