ROME, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Italy's gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 1.4 percent in the first quarter of 2018, according to preliminary estimates issued by the National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) on Wednesday.
Seasonally and calendar-adjusted data showed that the Italian economy grew by 0.3 percent with respect to the fourth quarter of 2017, and by 1.4 percent on annual basis, ISTAT said.
The GDP growth has been driven by a rise in value added in agriculture, forestry and fishing, and services, while almost no change has been registered in manufacturing, ISTAT explained in its report.
On the demand side, there was a positive contribution of the domestic components (gross of inventories), and a negative contribution from the net foreign component. Enditem
