RABAT, May 2 (Xinhua) -- The 5th Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development kicked off Wednesday in the Moroccan city of Marrakech.

The conference brings together ministers and high-level representatives from 60 countries in Africa and Europe, as well as from the European Commission and the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States.

This high-level conference discusses various issues related to migration and defines the priority actions for cooperation during the period 2018-2020.

It is expected to adopt a multi-annual cooperation program as well as the Marrakech Declaration on migration and its action plan.

The conference is part and parcel of the Euro-African Ministerial Dialogue on Migration and Development, also known as the Rabat Process.

The dialogue has been a platform for political cooperation among the countries along the migration route between Central, West, North Africa and Europe since 2006.

The latest Euro-African Conference on Migration and Development was held in Rome, Italy in November 2014, while the first conference took part in July 2006 in Rabat. Enditem
