TRIPOLI, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Libya's UN-backed Prime Minister Fayez Serraj on Tuesday welcomed the demand of Cairo's 4th Quartet meeting that the Libyan parties accept the results of the elections to be held before the end 2018.

The prime minister expressed "satisfaction at the joint communique of the Quartet meeting on Libya, which stresses importance of holding presidential and parliamentary elections before the end of this year, in order to end the transitional stages and the state of political division in the country."

"All parties must accept the results of the elections, as stated in the meeting's joint communique," Serraj said.

Serraj also praised the Quartet meeting's call on neighboring countries to support Libya against illegal immigration by combating smuggling and human trafficking, as well as support the Libyan security services.

The 4th Quartet meeting on Libya was held in Cairo on Monday to discuss the situation in Libya and coordinate efforts to support the political and democratic transitional process.

The meeting stressed the importance of holding parliamentary and presidential elections before the end of the year, and stressed it is important for all Libyan parties to accept the results of the elections.

The elections are part of an action plan proposed by UN envoy for Libya Ghassan Salame in September 2017 to end the Libyan political division. Enditem
