1st LD Writethru: 6 injured in bomb attack near election registration center in Afghan town

JALALABAD, Afghanistan, April 29 (Xinhua) -- At least six people, including a child, were injured in a bomb attack near a voter registration center in Jalalabad, capital of eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar on Sunday, a provincial government spokesman said.

"Six civilians were injured after an improvised explosive device (IED) planted in a rickshaw went off at around midday near a mosque in Police District 4 of the city," Attaullah Khogyani told Xinhua.

The injured were shifted to hospital where two of the wounded remained in critical condition.

A poll registration center was set up inside the mosque for locals to visit the site and receive voting card. The blast also damaged several nearby buildings.

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident yet.

The Afghan election officials have slated Oct. 20 as the date for the upcoming parliamentary and district councils elections.

Over the past few months, Afghanistan has witnessed waves of terror attacks by the Islamic State (IS) and Taliban insurgents opposing the elections.

Last Sunday, some 60 people were killed and over 130 injured after an IS suicide bomber struck a voter registration site in Afghan capital of Kabul. Enditem
