Afghan woman, 2 children killed by abandoned explosives

JALALABAD, Afghanistan, April 29 (Xinhua) -- An Afghan woman and two children were killed in a blast caused by explosive remnants of war in eastern province of Nangarhar, a provincial government spokesman said Sunday.
"The incident occurred at around 06:30 Sunday in Surkh Rod district, east of provincial capital Jalalabad city," spokesman Attaullah Khogyani told Xinhua.
He said the blast occurred on an agriculture land near the victims' house. Another woman and a teenage girl were also wounded in the explosion.
Provincial police department has launched a probe into the incident.
Afghan officials use the term of explosive remnants of war (ERW) referring to unexploded ordnance (UXO) and abandoned explosive ordnance (AXO).
The ERW explosions killed 164 civilians and injured 475 others across Afghanistan in 2017, according to UN missions' figures. Enditem
