All-Star forward Anthony mulls future after Thunder's exit from NBA playoffs

Xinhua,April 29, 2018 Adjust font size:

WASHINGTON, April 28 (Xinhua) -- After a shock exit from the NBA playoffs opening round, the Oklahoma City Thunder star Carmelo Anthony said on Saturday that he will have "a whole lot to think about this offseason".

"I think for me, my focus would be on kind of figuring out what I want out of the rest of my career, what I want in my future, what am I willing to accept, if I'm willing to accept that at all," Anthony, 34, was quoted as saying by the ESPN on Saturday.

"I think everybody knows that I've sacrificed kind of near everything, family, moving here by myself, sacrificed my game for the sake of the team, and was willing to sacrifice anything and everything in order for this situation to work out.

"So it's something I really have to think about, if I really want to be this type of player, finish out my career as this type of player, knowing that I have so much left in the tank and I bring so much to the game of basketball," he added.

According to earlier reports, Anthony will be remaining with the Thunder next season. However, Anthony was far from being satisfied with his role at the Thunder, who asked the star to change from a power forward to a catch-and-shoot option rather than a leading scorer.

Anthony struggled adapting to not having the ball in his hands consistently and he didn't shoot well as the Thunder expected.

"I think the player that they wanted me to be and needed me to be was for the sake of this season," Anthony said. "As far as being effective as that type of player, I don't think I can be effective as that type of player.

"So now it's about figuring out what is the best way to implement that game into something that we're trying to create. I think we just all have to figure out how we're going to play and what's the style of play and what's most effective in the way that we're going to play. I think that's something that we have to figure out." Enditem
