MADRID, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Liga Santander side Sevilla on Saturday announced the decision to sack coach Vincenzo Montella and replace him with Joaquin Caparros.
Montella, who only arrived at the club at the start of the year following the sacking of Eduardo Berizzo, was sacked in the wake of Friday night's 2-1 defeat to Levante, which means Sevilla have now gone eight games without a win and are in serious danger of not qualifying for Europe.
Montella did take Sevilla to the quarter-finals of the Champions League following a famous 2-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford and also guided them to their second Copa del Rey final in three years.
However, last weekend’s Cup final appearance was a painful experience for Sevilla as they were hammered 5-0 by Barcelona and the players were booed and insulted by their fans on their journey back to Seville.
Veteran coach Caparros returns to the club he left 13 years ago and will be in charge for the last four games of the campaign with a view to ensuring qualification for Europe. Enditem
