WASHINGTON, April 28 (Xinhua) -- American CoCo Vandeweghe continued her undefeated run at the ongoing Stuttgart Open as she picked up her third Top 10 win of the week by dispatching No.6 seed Caroline Garcia of France 6-4, 6-2 and advanced to the final on Saturday.
The players had matched up twice before, both times in Wuhan Open, where they split the encounters, with Garcia having won in 2014 and Vandeweghe exacting revenge in 2015. But it was Vandeweghe who emerged triumphant in their first match since then, easing past the world number seven in just 74 minutes.
Before her victory against the Frenchwoman, Vandeweghe also had straight-set upsets of world number nine Sloane Stephens of the United States and world number one Simona Halep of Romania.
"I don't believe I faced a break point. That's a job well done by me, and I can pat myself on the back, because that's a really good achievement for me," said Vandeweghe, who's in her first-ever clay-court final in career.
In the championship match, Vandeweghe will face No. 5 seed and former number one Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic, who ousted Anett Kontaveit of Estonia in the other semifinal. Vandeweghe and Pliskova are both gunning for their first WTA singles title of 2018. Enditem
