5.6-magnitude earthquake hits Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, April 29 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 5.6-magnitude jolted parts of northwestern Pakistan on Saturday, local Met office said.
Pakistan meteorological office said on its website that epicenter of the quake was determined in the Hindu Kush mountains along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
The quake's latitude was determined at 36.41 north latitude and 71.22 longitude east and it happened 200 km beneath the earth's crust.
No loss of life or property has been immediately reported, but the quake created panic among the people who rushed out of their houses.
Local Urdu TV channel Samaa reported that the tremors were felt in Swat, Malakand, Battagram, Dir Bala areas of the country's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Pakistan is located in one of the most earthquake prone areas with high vulnerability to earthquakes.
Geographically, the country lies in the collision zone of the India tectonic plate to the south and the Eurasian plate to the north. Enditem
