Morocco foils cannabis trafficking operation to Spain

Xinhua,April 29, 2018 Adjust font size:

RABAT, April 28 (Xinhua) -- A total of 490 kg of cannabis was seized at the northern Tangier-Med Port, the Moroccan police said on Saturday.

The drug was concealed inside a truck heading to Spain, the police pointed out in a statement.

The truck's driver, aged 34, has been remanded in custody pending the completion of the investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor.

An investigation is underway to determine all ramifications and links of this criminal network and arrest all the people involved in this drug-trafficking attempt.

Despite efforts to crack down on cannabis farming in the past decade, Morocco remains the world's largest cannabis resin harvesting country, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Enditem
