MOSCOW, April 28 (Xinhua) -- The meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become a new milestone in the development of bilateral relations, a Russian expert said Saturday.
"The meeting is of great symbolic significance ... It will undoubtedly give impetus and new dynamics to China-India relations," Boris Volkhonsky, associate professor of the Institute of Asian and African Studies, Moscow State University, said.
In an interview with Xinhua, Volkhonsky said addressing global development issues without the participation of China and India is simply impossible. Building trust between the two largest countries in the region will contribute to global peace and stability.
"China and India are rapidly developing and playing an increasingly active role in world affairs," he said, adding that this is contributing to a more equitable international order.
Volkhonsky said there are several platforms on which China and India can cooperate, particularly BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Xi and Modi began their two-day informal meeting in central Chinese city Wuhan on Friday. Enditem
