Four things to look out for in Spain's La Liga matchday 35

Xinhua,April 27, 2018 Adjust font size:

MADRID, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Matchday 35 of the Spanish football season could see FC Barcelona confirmed as La Liga champions for the 2017-18 season while at the same time resolving the issue of which side will join Malaga and Las Palmas in the second division next season. Here are some things to look out for in Spain's matchday 35.

1. Barca to be crowned as title winners

A point for Barcelona in Deportivo la Coruna's Riazor Stadium on Sunday evening will mean they are crowned champions with three games left in the season and a week before they play Real Madrid in the Camp Nou Stadium.

Barcelona could even be confirmed as champions before kick off if Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, who face Alaves away and Leganes at home, fail to win their respective games.

While a point for Barca would mean they win the title, it would confirm Deportivo are relegated to the Liga 123 along with Malaga and Las Palmas. Deportivo's fate could also be sealed beforehand if fourth from bottom Levante win at home to Sevilla on Friday night.

2 Last chance saloon for Montella

Sevilla coach Vincenzo Montella takes his side to Levante with his job very much in the spotlight. Last weekend's Copa Del Ray humiliation against Barcelona, which saw Sevilla lose 5-0 while barely offering any resistance, has gone down very badly at the club.

The club's Director of Sport was sacked during the week and Montella was expected to follow him out the door; failure to win against Levante would certainly seal his fate.

3 Getafe to step towards Europe

At the start of the season most people would have expected to see newly promoted Getafe and Girona in the bottom half of the table, but they go into Sunday's game in the Alfonso Perez Coliseum battling to qualify for Europe.

Last weekend's defeat at home to Espanyol knocked the wind out of Girona's sails, but four straight wins have left Getafe level on points with a nervous Sevilla and with every chance of playing in next season's Europa League.

Pepe Bordalas' side are not pretty to watch (they completed less than 100 passes last week in Eibar) but they are incredibly hard to break down and with already relegated Las Palmas and Malaga to play, their run in to the end of the season looks relatively easy.

4 Inigo Martinez in the spotlight in Basque derby

Athletic Club Bilbao defender Inigo Martinez can expect a hostile reception when he steps out onto the pitch in the Anoeta Stadium for Saturday's Basque derby between Real Sociedad and Athletic.

Inigo abandoned 'La Real' to join Athletic Club in January and if that wasn't enough to anger his former fans, he recently gave an interview in which he said he had always supported Athletic Club.

That and a 'tweet' published on Thursday in which Athletic remembered their rivals' relegation in 2007 has added spice to what would otherwise be a game between two teams who have had disappointing seasons. Enditem
