GOYANG, South Korea -- Leaders of South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) discussed denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula, the establishment of a permanent peace pact and the improvement of inter-Korean ties, South Korea's Blue House said Friday.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in and top DPRK leader Kim Jong Un sincerely and candidly talked about the issues during their formal closed-door dialogue, which lasted for about 100 minutes, Yoon Young-chan, senior press secretary for Moon, told a press briefing at the border village of Panmunjom. NEW DELHI -- Indian police Friday claimed to have gunned down seven left-wing Naxalite rebels in a fierce encounter in the central state of Chhattisgarh.

The encounter took place in a dense forest close to Ipenta village in the state's Bijapur district near the border with the southern state of Telangana. (India-Naxals-Rebels)

JALALABAD, Afghanistan -- At least six Taliban militants were killed after Afghan Special Operations Forces waged a raid in eastern province of Nangarhar overnight, the provincial government said in a statement on Friday.

"The operation was launched in Adwar locality, Khogyani district. A Taliban bomb-making expert named Zarin was among the killed. One militant was injured and two others were arrested by the security force," the statement added. (Afghanistan-Militants-Toll)

WASHINGTON -- The White House said on Thursday that the meeting between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un is historic, and extended good wishes to the Korean people.
