KIEV, April 25 (Xinhua) -- The 11th Ukrainian edition of Chinese Proficiency Competition "Chinese Bridge" for school students was held here on Wednesday.

Ten contestants aged between 15 and 18 years old from the Ukrainian capital and the eastern city of Kharkiv participated in the competition staged at Kiev Gymnasium of Oriental Languages.

They delivered self-introduction speeches in Chinese, answered questions about China and showed their talents to the seven-member jury and the audience of about 200 people.

Ilia Li, a 16-year-old student from Kiev Gymnasium of Oriental Languages, won the competition for high proficiency in Chinese language and the bright performance "Flying dragon dancing phoenix."

"Thanks to this victory, I will get an opportunity to be enrolled to the Peking University in Beijing. I had a dream of studying there, and thanks to this competition, I moved a little closer to this dream," Li told Xinhua.

The international contest "Chinese Bridge," launched by China's Confucius Institute Headquarters in 2002, aims to encourage foreign students to learn Chinese. Enditem
