Austrian midfielder Junuzovic to leave Werder Bremen

Xinhua,April 24, 2018 Adjust font size:

BERLIN, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Zlatko Junuzovic and Werder Bremen part ways after the season, both sides confirmed in an official statement via the club's official homepage on Monday.

After six and a half year, Zlatko Junuzovic's chapter in Werder Bremen comes to an end in the summer, as both sides were unable to reach an agreement on a further collaboration.

"It wasn't an easy decision for me. Bremen was my first transfer abroad. They gave me the chance to prove myself in one of the best leagues in the world. The decision has already been made but there are still some details to be discussed so that I cannot give any further information for the moment," Junuzovic said.

The 30-year-old midfielder and team captain joined the "Green-Whites" from Austria Wien in January 2012. He established himself as a cornerstone of the team, making 194 appearances with 22 goals.

"We have repeatedly emphasised how important Zlatko is with his quality for the team. Therefore I would have liked to see him playing another season with us. But, I can understand his decision too. He is now at an age where he may have the chance to try something new or different. I wish him the best for the future," Bremen coach Florian Kohfeldt said.

Werder Bremen sit on the 12th of the Bundesliga standings. They clash with third placed Borussia Dortmund to conclude the 32nd round on Sunday. Enditem
