JOHANNESBURG, April 23 (Xinhua) -- South Africa's Premier Soccer League (PSL) on Monday charged Kaizer Chiefs FC with misconduct and bringing the league into disrepute.
On Saturday night, Kaizer Chiefs fans invaded the pitch when the team lost 2-0 to Free State Stars at the Nedbank Cup semifinal.
Kaizer Chiefs will appear before the PSL Disciplinary Committee on May 3, 2018. The PSL chairperson Irvin Khoza briefed the media in Johannesburg about the violence on Monday.
"The league is extremely shocked at the violence that took place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night. I want to make it clear that there is no place for violence in our stadiums and society. Let me say that the league takes its responsibility to secure the safety of the fans, players and officials very seriously. There will be a thorough investigation," said Khoza.
Khoza said there was lack of budget which forced the PSL not to deploy enough police and security at the stadium. He could not disclose how much Kaizer Chiefs is likely to be fined.
Kaizer Chiefs had recently been fined 16,667 U.S. dollars for their fans violent behavior. Enditem
