SKOPJE, April 23 (Xinhua) -- The Macedonian National Bank (MNB) presented the first polymer banknotes in 10-denar and 50-denar denominations on Monday, which will go into circulation on May 15.
According to the bank, apart from the difference in material used from the paper banknotes, is the fact that the new banknotes contain security threats, micro text visible only with a magnifying glass, double registration mark and a hidden image, as well as a UV feature.
The polymer banknotes will contain a transparent window which contain all the recognizable elements from their original design. The 10-denar note is a stylized drawing of a peacock, whereas at the 50-denar banknote has an engraving of an early Byzantine coin.
A new feature of the two polymer banknotes is that visually impaired people will be able to identify the banknotes due to a special feature built to help tell notes from each other.
MNB underlined that the old similar banknotes will cease to be used on the same day that the new one enters into circulation. Enditem
