Boca Juniors reveal Buffon interest

BUENOS AIRES, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Argentina's Boca Juniors have expressed interest in signing veteran Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon following the end of the European season next month.

The 40-year-old's contract with Juventus expires in the summer and he has yet to declare whether he will continue his professional career into a 24th season.

According to Boca Juniors manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto, club president Daniel Angelici has made contact with Buffon in a bid to initiate negotiations.

"Angelici told me that they called Buffon to ask if he was interested, but we agreed to speak only after May 17," Schelotto told Radio Continental. "For now we have our minds on the Copa Libertadores and the Superliga Argentina."

Reports in Argentine media said that Boca forward and Buffon's former Juventus teammate Carlos Tevez would play a role in helping to woo the the Italian.

Buffon is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time. He is a nine-time Scudetto champion and was a member of the Italy team that won the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Enditem
