5.1-magnitude quake strikes off Japan's Chiba prefecture, no tsunami warning issued

TOKYO, April 21 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 struck off the coast of Chiba prefecture, eastern Japan, on Saturday, Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The temblor occurred at 6:47 p.m. local time, with the epicenter at a latitude of 35.6 degrees north and a longitude of 131.2 degrees east and at depth of 30 km, according to the agency.

The quake logged 3 in parts of Chiba prefecture and neighboring Ibaraki prefecture on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7.

So far no major damage or injuries were reported, and no tsunami warning has been issued. Enditem
