KABUL, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Two militants of Taliban insurgent group have been killed after an improvised explosive device (IED) they were planting along a road detonated prematurely, the Afghan Defense Ministry said Thursday.

The incident occurred on Wednesday in Durrahi Shir Khan Bandar, a locality in northern Kunduz province, the ministry said in a statement.

Taliban militants and Islamic State fighters have been using IEDs to make roadside bombs and landmines for targeting security forces.

The statement also said that the bomb disposal teams of the Afghan National Army (ANA) found and destroyed 20 rounds of IEDs across the country within the past 24 hours.

The Taliban militant group has yet to make comment. Enditem
