Tokyo stocks open higher

TOKYO, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Thursday, tracking gains on Wall Street overnight.

As of 9:15 a.m, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 87.59 points, or 0.40 percent, from Wednesday to 22,245.79.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 6.19 points, or 0.35 percent, at 1,755.86.

Nonferrous metal, iron and steel, and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
