HOUSTON, April 17 (Xinhua) -- The American Petroleum Institute (API) Tuesday reported a drop of 1.047 million barrels of United States crude oil inventories for the week ending April 13.

Last week, the API reported surprise build of 1.758 million barrels of crude oil.

According to API, U.S. gasoline inventories fell as well for week ending April 13, in the amount of 2.473 million barrels.

Oil prices settled higher on Tuesday as investors continued to monitor geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for May delivery increased 0.30 U.S. dollar to settle at 66.52 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, while Brent crude for June delivery added 0.16 dollar to close at 71.58 dollars a barrel on the London ICE Futures Exchange. Enditem
