Israel finds bomb at West Bank checkpoint

JERUSALEM, April 18 (Xinhua) -- A "powerful" explosive device was found in a Palestinian truck at a West Bank checkpoint on Wednesday, the Israeli Defense Ministry said.

The bomb was found after the driver was stopped for a routine check at the Rehian crossing between the northern West Bank and Israel. The driver was arrested, the ministry said in a statement.

The vehicle also carried goods to Israeli settlements in the area, according to the ministry.

The incident came as Israeli security forces were on full alert ahead of the mass celebrations for the country's 70th anniversary of its founding on Wednesday night. On Tuesday, Israel closed all exits from the West Bank for two days, citing security concerns. Enditem
