Qatar, UN training arm sign agreement on diplomatic training program

DOHA, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Qatar has signed a partnership agreement with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) to launch a diplomatic training program, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported on Wednesday.

The agreement was signed in Doha by Ali Khalfan al-Mansouri, Qatar's permanent representative to the UN and Nikhil Seth, UN assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNITAR.

Under the deal, the two sides will launch a program which aims to train and develop diplomats' skills in developing countries.

The UNITAR, UN's principal training arm since its establishment in 1963, provides government officials with training in peacekeeping and conflict prevention.

Qatar is currently facing a blockade by a number of Arab countries, mainly Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, since last June.

The Arab bloc accused Doha of funding terrorism, while the latter has strongly rejected the allegations. Enditem
