TOKYO, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened mixed Tuesday as Wall Street's advance overnight set a solid lead for buying, while the yen's standstill after retreating against the U.S. dollar drew selling.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average crept 19.20 points, or 0.09 percent higher, from Monday to 21,854.73.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 0.50 point, or 0.03 percent, at 1,735.72.

Oil and coal and metal product issues comprised early gainers, whereas rubber product and pharmaceutical issues led those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
