British stocks down 0.91 pct Monday

LONDON, April 16 (Xinhua) -- British stocks decreased on Monday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index down 66.36 points or 0.91 percent, to close at 7,198.20 points.

Whitbread, the multinational hotel, coffee shop and restaurant company, soared 7.19 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Smurfit Kappa Group and Marks & Spencer Group rose by 3.02 percent and 1.69 percent, respectively.

Evraz, the international mining group, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 6.98 percent.

WPP, the British multinational advertising and public relations company, dropped 6.48 percent. Micro Focus International, the British software and information technology business, dropped 3.62 percent. Enditem
