Kenyan shilling stronger against dollar, regional currencies

NAIROBI, April 13 (Xinhua) -- The Kenyan shilling ended the week stronger on Friday against the U.S. dollar as it surged, buoyed by inflows from horticulture sector.
The local unit traded against the dollar at an average of 100.85 from 100.90 in the Thursday session.
The Central Bank of Kenya quoted the shilling at a high of 100.87, a significant increase from 100.97 on Thursday.
Commercial banks, on the other hand, placed the currency at between 100.75 and 101.00 up from Thursday's margins of 100.80 and 101.00.
Forex traders in the financial institutions noted that there was continued increase in dollar inflows from the agriculture sector.
Against the British pound, the shilling strengthened to stand at 143.19 from 143.34 in the previous session.
The Central Bank noted the shilling had remained stable against major international and regional currencies during the week.
It was stable against the dollar, strengthened against the Japanese yen and marginally weakened against the pound and the euro.
In the East Africa Community region, the Kenyan shilling strengthened against Ugandan shilling and Rwanda Franc, but remained stable against the Tanzanian shilling and weakened against the Burundi franc. Enditem
