KUWAIT CITY, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) announced Thursday it has suspended all flights to Beirut, Lebanon, amid the U.S. threat to attack Syria.
The Kuwaiti national carrier said on Twitter that it made a decision to stop all flights bound for Lebanon starting Thursday, on the basis of serious security warnings.
The measure is aimed at protecting the safety of its passengers, the KAC said.
The KAC made the decision in light of a security warning that came from the government of Cyprus, the Kuwait News Agency reported.
It did not say how long the suspension will last, except for stating that the flights would be terminated "until further notice."
The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) issued a similar alert on Wednesday, warning pilots about the risks of flying, specifically in the eastern Mediterranean and in the Nicosia flight region. Nicosia is the largest city and the capital of Cyprus.
The warnings about civil aviation in the region were issued following U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Wednesday to launch a missile attack on Syria over the alleged chemical attack by Syrian government troops in the Douma district in east of Syrian capital Damascus. Enditem
