Austrian interior minister calls for end to asylum applications within Europe

Xinhua,April 12, 2018 Adjust font size:

VIENNA, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Austrian Minister of the Interior Herbert Kickl on Wednesday called for an end to the possibility for asylum applications to be made within Europe.

The Krone newspaper reported Kickl as having said that applications should only be allowed within transit zones outside Europe, with only those with a positive application outcome to be allowed in.

This would require a "bold" effort at the European Union level, he noted, arguing that Europe needs "a completely new asylum policy."

The minister said there should be greater incentives for countries to take back rejected asylum seekers, and that Europe could also help train people from those countries who could then return and help build them up. Enditem
