TRIPOLI, April 11 (Xinhua) -- The eastern-based Libyan army has denied reports that the army's commander, General Khalifa Haftar, has been transferred to Europe for treatment.
"The news about the health of the commander, General Khalifa Haftar, is not true. He is in an excellent health condition," spokesman Ahmad Mismari said in a statement late on Monday.
"The General is following up the work of the (army's) operations chambers and the military zones," said Mismari.
Media reports said that Haftar had a stroke, and that he was transferred to Jordan and then to Europe for medical treatment.
The news came shortly after Haftar announced that his forces will take over the eastern city of Darna, as demanded by the local people.
Since 2015, Darna has been besieged by the army which demanded the armed group of the Shura Council of Mujahideen of Darna leave the city. The army accuses the group of being loyal to al-Qaida. Enditem
