WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump will skip his first Latin America trip to stay in the United States to "oversee the American response to Syria," the White House said on Tuesday.

Trump was scheduled to pay a visit to Peru and Colombia this week, during which he would attend the Summit of the Americas in the Peruvian capital city of Lima. (US-Trump-Latin America)

DAMASCUS -- The Syrian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday it has sent UN an invitation for a fact-finding mission to investigate the allegations of chemical weapons use in Damascus' eastern district of Douma, state news agency SANA reported.

The Syrian government confirmed in a statement its willingness to provide help to the mission in the investigation, with the appeal being sent to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. (Syria-UN-Chemical Weapon)

GHAZNI, Afghanistan -- A total of seven militants were killed and three others injured as a clash erupted in the eastern Afghan province of Ghazni, said a statement from the army garrison released here Tuesday.

Without mentioning the possible casualties of security forces in the battle, the statement said that the government forces would continue to target militants elsewhere in the eastern region. (Afghanistan-Clash-Toll)
