TEHRAN, April 9 (Xinhua) -- A total of four Iranian troops, allied with the Syrian government, were killed in a missile strike that targeted an air base in central Syria on Monday morning, semi-official Fars news agency reported.

Seyyed Amar Mousavi, Mehdi Lotfi Niasar, Akbar Zavar Jannati and Mehdi Dehqan were killed in the airstrike on the air base in Syria's central province of Homs, Fars said.

Up to 14 people died in the attack by Israeli F-15 warplanes on the T-4 air base in central Syria from the Lebanese airspace, it added.

Also on Monday, Iranian state IRIB TV said an Iranian military official Col. Morteza Basiripour was killed in Syria by Islamic States (IS) militants.

Earlier in the day, Iran's Foreign Ministry strongly condemned Israel's airstrike on the Syrian air base.

"The attack by the Zionist regime (of Israel) is a clear violation of international laws and is in line with the enforcement of terrorist groups," Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said. Enditem
