CAPE TOWN, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Paralympian Oscar Pistorius' application to appeal his jail sentence of 13 years and five months has been dismissed, the Constitutional Court said on Monday.
The application falls outside the court's jurisdiction, the court said.
"The Constitutional Court has considered the application for condonation and leave to appeal. It has concluded that the application for condonation should be granted, but that the application for leave to appeal should be dismissed as it does not engage this court's jurisdiction," the court said.
The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) last year meted out the 13-year and five-month jail sentence for Pistorius for killing his girl friend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day in 2013. Pistorius claimed that he mistook her for an intruder.
Following the sentence, Pistorius turned to the Constitutional Court as his final chance to try and get out of the sentence.
Prosecutors had sought a 15-year sentence for the world famous paralympian, but the SCA took into account that he had already served 12 months in prison previously and that he was out on seven months correctional supervision, which included house arrest. Enditem
