HANOI, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Uber Technologies officially ceased its ride-hailing operations in Vietnam from Monday after the operations in Southeast Asia were merged with Grab, while Go-Jek from Indonesia is preparing to enter the Vietnamese market, local media reported on Monday.

In March, Go-Jek started recruiting personnel in Vietnam to enter the Vietnamese market, competing with Grab, Dau Tu (Investment) newspaper reported on Monday.

Vietnam has a population of some 95 million, of whom around 46 million own motorbikes.

In Vietnam, many Uber drivers have turned to work for Grab or local taxi or motorbike taxi firms.

Vietnam's Hanoi capital currently has 19,265 taxis, and some 30,000 cars which operate similar to taxis under various brands. The respective figures in Ho Chi Minh City are 11,060 and around 33,000, the newspaper reported. Enditem
