KAMPALA , April 8 (Xinhua) -- The Harambee Starlets of Kenya have eliminated Uganda Crested Cranes in the first round of the on-going 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifier.

Coach David Ouma's team held Uganda Crested Cranes to a goalless draw in a match played here on Sunday to qualifier for the next round on a 1-0 goal aggregate.

The Harambee Starlets won the first leg 1-0 last week in Machakos, Kenya.

"We are glad that we made it to the next round although we missed some good scoring chances that my strikers wasted," Ouma told Xinhua after the game.

Neddy Atieno Okoth had four chances wasted for the visiting Kenyan team, while Juliet Nalukenge also had her well taken shot parried away for a corner early in the first half by the Harambee Starlets' goalkeeper Maureen Shimuli.

In the second half, the Kenyan team who played a highly passing game tried to pin the Ugandan team, but the home side stood firm in defending.

The two teams made some changes but still no goals were scored.

Faridah Bulega, the Uganda Crested Cranes coach said it was a bad day for her team that failed to score.

"We played a better game, but were simply not trying enough times at goal," said Bulega.

Kenya's Harambee Starlets will now face Equatorial Guinea in the second qualifier which is also the final qualifying round ahead of the tournament to take place in Ghana. Enditem
