China reports fewer fires during Tomb-sweeping holiday

BEIJING, April 8 (Xinhua) -- China reported a total of 1,991 fires during the three-day Tomb sweeping holiday, a 40.6-percent decrease from last year, according to the Ministry of Public Security.
More than 5,400 fire-fighting operations were conducted nationwide during the holiday from Thursday to Saturday, and a total of 689 people were rescued, the ministry's public fire department said on Sunday.
More than 12,500 inspection teams were dispatched to eliminate potential fire hazards.
Fire precautions were also publicized on media to raise awareness.
Tomb-sweeping Day is an occasion when Chinese to honor their ancestors. Many also spent the three-day holiday on leisure travel. Enditem
