1st LD, Writethru: Magnitude-5.8 earthquake strikes Japan's Shimane prefecture, no tsunami warning issued

TOKYO, April 9 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.8 struck Shimane prefecture, western Japan, on Monday, Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The temblor occurred at 1:32 a.m. Monday local time (16:32 GMT Sunday), with the epicenter at a latitude of 35.2 degrees north and a longitude of 132.6 degrees east and at depth of 10 km, according to the agency.

The quake logged upper 5 in the city of Oda in western Shimane and lower 5 in some other areas of the prefecture on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7.

So far no major damage or injuries were reported, and no tsunami warning has been issued. Enditem
