LUSAKA, April 8 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Sunday.
-- Prison authorities in Zambia have expressed concern that high levels of stigma and discrimination against ex-convicts in communities have made it difficult for authorities to reform the former prisoners.
Zambia Correctional Service Commissioner in Charge of Corrections and Extension Services Tobias Mwanza said ex-prisoners are usually stigmatized and discriminated by people in the community who do not understand that they have reformed. (Zambia Daily Mail)
-- A cattle disease has broken out in two districts of central Zambia forcing authorities to ban the movement of livestock in and out of the two districts.
Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Kampamba Mulenga said foot and mouth disease has broken out in Chisamba and Chibombo districts but assured necessary measures have been put in place to contain the disease. (Times of Zambia)
-- The Zambian government has postponed all pending payroll inputs for this month to facilitate for the upgrading of a financial and management system which crashed in January this year.
Bornface Chimbwali, permanent secretary in the public service division, said payments have been suspended to facilitate for the upgrade of the Financial Management Information System and the Payroll Management Established Control but noted that it will affect the payment of salaries for this month.
