Non-communicable diseases pose increasing threat to Brunei: official

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Brunei is facing an increasing population of non-communicable diseases patients, Haji Mohammad Isham, the country's Minister of Health said on Saturday.

The number of people visiting the Chronic Diseases Clinic involving cases of Diabetes, hypertension or high blood pressure and high cholesterol have increased from about 69,000 in 2015 to almost 77,000 in 2017, official statistics showed.

The burden on non-communicable diseases in the country needs to be addressed in a more effective and consolidated way, according to a statement from the minister on World Health Day 2018 celebration.

World Health Day is celebrated annually on April 7. It is a platform for disseminating information of the importance of healthcare. The theme of this year's World Health Day is "Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere." Enditem
