"Ready Player One" leads foreign titles in China cinemas

BEIJING, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Steven Spielberg's sci-fi movie "Ready Player One" leads a group of foreign films in Chinese cinemas.

The Spielberg film topped the weekly box office in its debut week earning 389 million yuan (62 million U.S. dollars) as of April 1, according to China Film News. It was tailed by another American sci-fi film "Pacific Rim Uprising" and Alicia Vikander's "Tomb Raider".

Other foreign titles on the show include Marvel Studios' superhero film "Black Panther", comedy "Pup Star" and "The Shape of Water."

Domestic documentary "Amazing China" and action film "Operation Red Sea" remained popular, according to the report.

The three-day Tomb-sweeping Day break starting Thursday is seeing more Chinese go to the cinema. The holiday box office will be released next week. Enditem
