U.S. boy killed in homemade cannon explosion

LOS ANGELES, April 6 (Xinhua) -- A 14-year-old boy living in the western U.S. state of Wyoming was killed by his handmade cannon when he was showing the device to his friend, the Gillette News Record newspaper reported Friday.

The report said Archie Pearce made the cannon with a steel pipe, cloth and gun or firework powder in an abandoned lot. The junior high student learned how to make the cannon from YouTube videos.

Local bomb technicians said the accident that happened on Thursday evening was caused by the explosion of the cannon's pipeline, which was stuck when packed too tightly.

"It was just extremely unfortunate," said local sheriff Scott Matheny. "The intention was to experiment." Enditem
