U.S. slaps sanctions on two individuals related to Mexican cartels

WASHINGTON, April 6 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Treasury Department announced on Friday that it has imposed sanctions on two individuals, accusing them of facilitating Mexican drug cartels for money laundering and prostitution ring.

The department said in a statement that it designated two persons, a Mexican music promoter and a Venezuelan-Italian fashion photographer, "for their roles facilitating money laundering and an international prostitution ring" on behalf of Mexican drug cartels.

"Treasury is targeting individuals who work on behalf of violent Mexican drug kingpins, and support their opulent lifestyles by trafficking deadly drugs into the United States," said Treasury Under Secretary Sigal Mandelker in the statement.

The sanctions would freeze any assets that a blacklisted person holds under U.S. jurisdiction and ban any U.S. individuals or companies from making business deals with them. Enditem
