MANILA -- A consortium of the Chinese and Filipino firms will build the "new" Marawi, the former main battle area in a five-month war against Islamist militants in the southern Philippines, authorities said on Friday.
Eduardo del Rosario, chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, said the members of the new Marawi consortium are composed of five Chinese and three local firms and led by China State Construction Engineering Corp. Ltd. (The Philippines-China-Marawi-Development)

KABUL -- Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi who paid a day-long visit to Afghan capital Kabul on Friday assured Islamabad's support for the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process to make the national reconciliation efforts succeed in the insurgency-plagued country.
"Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in meeting with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani welcomed the president's recent offer for talks with the Taliban and assured Pakistan's support for the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process to achieve lasting peace in Afghanistan," said a statement of the Presidential Palace released here. MANILA -- A senior Philippine official said on Friday that the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) is an important dialogue platform because it focuses on the challenges facing Asia and how Asia can contribute to world prosperity.

JAKARTA -- Negotiation of free trade agreements between Indonesia and Australia is expected to be completed by August of this year, Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution said here on Friday.
