Xinhua,April 06, 2018 Adjust font size:

JAKARTA, April 6 (Xinhua) -- The government of Indonesia will officially set a new medal target in the Asian Games in June, a minister announced here on Friday.

"We have not determined the target yet. We will officially unveil the target number of medals secured in June," Indonesian youth and sport minister Imam Nahrawi said.

Several Indonesian officials had previously mentioned that Indonesia expected to be among the top ten in the Asiad with 16 gold medals.

During the upcoming announcement, the minister said that it would also determine the number of sports potentially contributing gold medals to the country.

In the latest Asian Games held in Incheon, South Korea from September 18-October 4, 2014, Indonesia placed 17th.

Indonesian athletes secured five gold medals, fourteen silver medals and fourteen bronze medals.

A total of about 11,000 athletes and officials from 45 countries and regions will come into Jakarta and Palembang, the provincial capital of South Sumatra province to participate in the 18th Asian Games, which are scheduled to be held from August 18-September 2.

The athletes will compete in 40 sports during the event. Enditem
